Sonicom Network System Co., Ltd is a subsidiary company of the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security ( FRI communication technology department), engaging in the development, sales, integration, and installation and maintenance of communications devices. It consists of a marketing and sales department, a technical support and maintenance department, a research and development department, and a general office; there are twenty-seven employees in the company, including 2 research fellows, 7 research associates, 6 engineers, and 12 technicians. The company is primarily concerned with the design, fabrication, and installation of public security related wireless communications devices as well as training service for various public security related customers.
The company passed the ISO 9001 quality system certification assessment in October 2002; the quality of the company's products is assured by operation in strict compliance with the ISO 9001 quality system standards. Different departments in the company cooperate with each other by passing standardized documentation before and after sale, providing quality service to the customers.
In 1997, the company started to cooperate with Rohill to develop and fabricate trunking system in accordance with the standards defined by the Ministry of Public Security, and by August 2003, the systems have been installed and used in different provinces, municipal cities, and autonomous regions, totaling 28 different places in China inclusive of Xishuang Banna in Yunnan province.
In 1997, the company started to cooperate with Motorola (China) and sell Motorola 350M communications products and accessories to the police force.
In 1999, in collaboration with the Japanese ICOM the company had developed mobile radio suited for China Public Security Trunking Communication, including IC35FI trunking handportable and IC3500 trunking mobile.
